Vienna International Postdoctoral Program 2022-2023 is a fully funded scholarship for international students. Post-doctoral interventions will include an annual salary of 70,040 EUR, full health insurance and additional support for each child ranging from 110 – 170 EUR per month per child.

VIP2 is a three-year post-doctoral program at the Vienna BioCenter (VBC) open to candidates with backgrounds in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, medicine, engineering, computer science, and bioinformatics. The program operates under a two-coach program where partners select a large research team and an academic advisor according to their specific projects and are supported by a second-choice advisor at VBC research institutes, the VBC biotech sector, our alumni network and beyond.

The Vienna International Postdoctoral Program selects people whose projects have the potential to develop into separate research lines and thus act as a step towards an independent career path. Interdisciplinary and inter-lab projects are highly recommended.

Scholarship Coverage

The Vienna International Postdoctoral Program provides the recipient with the following benefits:

  • Salary: Each partner receives an annual salary of 70,040 EUR paid in 14 installments (12 months plus one Christmas and one holiday bonus, according to Austrian law)
    full health insurance
  • Social security includes paid maternity leave (16 weeks), paid parental leave (up to 24 months), pension contribution, and risk insurance.
  • Families receive additional support for each child (“Familienbeihilfe”) from 110 – 170 EUR per month per child, depending on the child’s age.
  • Tax deductions apply to single-income households.
  • There are ways to contribute to the cost of moving away from other partners.

Terms of Reference for the Vienna International Postdoctoral Program

To be eligible for the Vienna International Postdoctoral Program, a candidate must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Required Language: English.
  • Eligible Countries: All countries of the world
  • Applicants must have a PhD in health sciences or related fields such as physics, engineering, chemistry, computer science, or mathematics.
  • The proposed science project should be accompanied by on-campus research (applicants should name one or more potential hosts).
  • Interdisciplinary and inter-lab projects are highly recommended.
  • Candidates are asked to contact their preferred advisors before and during the design of their research projects.
  • Applicants must have at least one original author or publication published in bioRxiv or arXiv.
  • During the telephone deadline (June 15) applicants must also make international travel, according to Marie Curie Action. That is, they were not to stay or do their main work (work, studies) in Austria for more than 12 months in just 3 years just before the beating deadline.

How do you apply for the Vienna International Postdoctoral Program?

Please follow the following application instructions to apply for the Vienna International Postdoctoral Program:

  1. Click here  to apply and provide the following information:
  • Personal information: name, contact details, current place of study / occupation
  • Primary science area (select one of 7 locations in VBC) with up to 5 keywords
  • DOI for at least one original author or manuscript publication
  • Contact details of the two referees. The system will send the default email to the referee with instructions. At least one reference book must be uploaded to the system BEFORE the application can be submitted.

2 .Attach the following documents:

  • CV with details of education, science training from Bachelor degree, honors, etc.
  • PDF documents and training certificates.
  • A five-page project proposal that recommends the goals of the hosting lab.
  • One-page description of a project written for the community, describing the impact of the community.
  • Written evidence (letter or email) from the chosen group leader indicating that he or she supports the request.
    If you are accepted, you will move on to the next stage of the interview on site.
